Touch Grass

Calico prints, plaid flannels, and sturdy boots call back to frontier days—which is precisely why they’re the key to fully unplugging from modern life.

Today’s digital deluge has us heading for the hills, quite literally, seeking rustic settings, analogue hobbies, and the all-sensory experience of being in nature. But can you really unplug from a screen-soaked life if you’re wearing a pair of PVC leggings? Modern clothing may allow us to move from Pilates to Zoom meetings in the span of an hour, but its functionality lacks the tactile pleasures of well-made clothing, like the prickling of an old wool sweater or the soft brush of suede against the skin—qualities at the heart of Polo’s Fall collection. These are pieces made with natural materials that reconnect us to nature and our senses. Using the hearty textures of suede, corduroy, shearling, and burnished leathers, it’s a natural, woodsy palette that wears well in the country as well as in frenetic daily life. The dainty calico print on a pleated silk shirtdress, meanwhile, not only channels Little House on the Prairie; it also offers the eye a delicate focal point that you can only fully experience off-screen.
